Daily watercolor painting – Landascape #6

Daily Watercolor - Landscape #6

This watercolor painting was done in 11 x 14 cold press watercolor paper.  Layering technique was used by first drawing the outline in pencil.  Layers of light diluted watercolor was added to the previous layer after each one is dried.  A very loose and fast technique is used as well as a large brush to maintain the wetness of the paper and the area of each layer.  Basically a wet in wet technique is used.  Finally a small brush is used to paint in the watercolor detail.  After the painting is dry, paint is splatter in using a tooth brush.  Color is also taken out using a wet tissue on various area of the sky, mountain and water.

Playful Landscape – Watercolor sketch and study

Playful Landscape - 3 x 6.5 inches

Did a small whimsical landscape last night on a 3 x6.5 inches of cold press watercolor paper.  I called it Playful Landscape because the watercolor I used is mostly right out of the tube and all I did is dilute it with water to lower it’s intensity.  It is a quick watercolor landscape study and I like the way it turns out which is simple and quick.  After all the watercolor layers are dry, I outline it with a permanent marker and make sure that it is free and loose to match the mood of the painting.  This is more a quick sketch than a watercolor painting which many people try to do on location.

Toward the Sunrise – Daily Watercolor Painting

Completed Watercolor Painting - Toward the Sunrise

Toward the Sunrise – Watercolor 15 x 20 inches

The watercolor painting Toward the Sunrise has been changed in the final stage and I think it is better as a result.  The bottom green has been darken together with the value of the tree on the right side.  Layers of Winsor and Newton Windsor Green and Ultramarine Blue was added.  That resulted in a darker value for the foreground in the landscape which I think is more appropiate for the scene.  The sky seems brighter and the purple and brown in other areas has more brilliance in contrast with the dark foreground.

Daily watercolor painting – Toward the Sunrise

Toward the Sunrise - Watercolor 15 x 20 inches

I have completed painting the Toward the Sunrise watercolor painting last night.  It was not as time consuming as I thought it would.  It was painted using Winsor and Newton watercolor and also Da Vinci Watercolor paints on cold press watercolor paper.  Watercolor from the tube was spatter on one layer at a time and it works for this kind of watercolor painting.  I feel that the bottom green shade of the painting should be a darker shade and should carry a darker value.  I think that needs to be changed.  The little lonley tree on the right side need to be darker as well.  I will try to correct this tonight and that should give the overall watercolor painting more contrast so that the upper part of the painting should resulted in a much more sunrise glow.  This I will try to achieve tonight.

Toward the Sunrise - Watercolor Landscape

More work done on the Toward the Sunrise watercolor painting.  I tried doing a gradated wash on the paper so that it acts like an underpainting before I spatter on the diluted but not mixed watercolor from the tube.  I found that it works better in certain areas and I need to be more aware  on the tones and values of the adjacent areas if I use this underpainting method.  The color nees to be the same or very similar and it will afffect the overall value of the areas to be painted.  Exploring all these possibilities will certainly give me more options as my style is developed and fine tuned.  Tonight I will try to finish this watercolor painting and will go on and explore some other different application of watercolor paint on paper.

Toward the Sunrise – Daily watercolor painting

Toward the Sunrise

Started a watercolor painting today on cold press watercolor paper.  It is a landscape watercolor painting and the subject is sunrise with the title – Toward the Sunrise.  Started by pencil drawing the design.  A small value sketch can be made in this stage as to what the values should be put in for different painting areas.   I have decided to use the same method of watercolor painting because I like the result.  This time though I am going to experiment with my watercolor wash a bit before the splattering is to be put on.  I have been doing the sky and a few clouds and mountains using straightly watercolor splattering but tomorrow and over the weekend,  I shall try using a flat or gradated wash before I put on the splattering.  I like to compare the result of the two watercolor technique and notice any difference.

Water and Beyond – watercolor painting

Landscape watercolor - Final 7 x 22 in

Finished the watercolor painting last night and with a tiltle water and beyond.  I might want to change it to anyother name sometime late because I found that a painting title needs to reflect the mood and subject of the painting.  Abstract painting is the hardest for me to title but it is the most fun.  Like a father naming a new born, for me naming a painting should be full of excitment and joy.  It should done with a creative mind and with enthusium and passion.  The painting can also be title with something mysterious to evoke a sense of wondering for the viewer.  Paintings can also be named with emotion.

Daily Watercolor Painting – Landscape

Landscape watercolor painting

I have continued with more of the landscape watercolor last night.  I was wondering when I do this watercolor that if I can use this watercolor technique on other subjects.  I will give it a try when I get to do the next watercolor painting.  I like to try using a brush thogh.  There is a lot of difference between doing it with a brush than with other tools but I should try other ones just for experiment before I can find my own style.  Still experimenting and hopefully I can have my own artistle expressive style not before long.
